Can I fly a Radio Control model ?

Yes. There is no age or experience barrier. Anyone can successfully pilot a model aircraft. You must take time to learn the basics of operating a model aircraft. Learning to fly R/C models on your own can be frustrating and expensive. Join the Broken Hill Model Flying Club and get some advice and assistance. When you join the club you will also join the MAAA ( Model Aeronautical Association of Australia ). This association has a third party insurance policy which covers you against injury to people and damage to property.

How do I start ?

So your interested in learning to fly model aircraft. Why not book a free lesson with one of our club instructors. All equipment can be provided and you can be connected to a buddy-box system which means the instructor can take over at any time. Advice can be given on purchasing aircraft, engine, transmitter etc.

Costs

Like most hobbies you can spend as little or as much as you like. If your new to model flying then you will need the following to get started. Transmitter, which would normally include battery pack, charger, servos, and receiver. Trainer aircraft, engine and propeller. Starting gear would include a flight box, fuel ,12v battery, glow plug ignitor, and fuel pump. In total you could be in the air for around $800.
